This post is finally here, it was long overdue and never as appropriate as now.

The OVER project is, as those of you who’ve read the project history on the website probably knowOVER logo, very old. It all started a long time ago and lasted several years.

During the development of such a big project we ran into many hurdles. First and foremost, keep motivated a team of people working in their spare time and completely for free. It is really hard to keep the excitement/thrill up when there are no immediate results/compensation to be seen from your work.

The project started as a really ambitious 3D RTS and was gradually scaled downwards while the group tried to cope with members’ defections and the technical difficulties which are bound to come up during the development of such a massive project.
Well, three years, two teams, allot of swearing and cursing later the group seem to have finally found its balance. The project is moving on smoothly. Deadlines are being met face on and problems are being dealt with swiftly.

So, the main topic of this post. Kudos to the OVER team. They’ve recently met a new milestone. Unfortunately, due to a series of adverse circumstances, namely beer with friends and graphic card burning to ashes as soon I switched my computer on I haven’t been able to test the release properly, yet.

I think this is an impressive achievement for the OVER team. Not that I wasn’t expecting them to complete the job, but I must admit the diligence and dedication with which the entire (third) team has worked for this has pleasantly surprised me.

In the past few days Matteo, lead designer, has written an interesting article on the development blogs explaining the new direction the project is taking and swore to keep the area of the web-site up to date.
I suggest you check it out because things are happening now and the project is progressing at full steam.

Take it easy,
Stefano
